Governor’s Mansion according to the information and facts we have, had been built just before or around 1820 and fully completed a few years later. Late Governor of the Tea estates Mr.William Scott and his dad first built what is now the security quarters. The building of unique shape and size contained an office, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, garage, stables, kennel and an aviary. The photographs we have at the Governor’s Mansion taken in 1820 when family members of late Mr.William Scott visited, clearly shows how the Mansion had begun to age. This suggests it had been built at least a few years prior to 1820.
Late Governor William Scott who is closely connected to the British Royal family built the Mansion. There were no less than forty (40) rooms offering different facilities. Nothing has been done to alter the original footprint of the Mansion. The present owners have pains takingly have succeeded restoring the Mansion to its original glory and beyond. A few minor internal alterations have created ensuite facilities to all the suites.
Records show a young British princess and her sister frequented the Governor’s Mansion every summer holiday until the princess was coronated as the queen. Late William Scott also built the now famous Warleigh Church with over looks Castleleigh reservoir as a thanks giving for granting him the desire, knowledge and wisdom to build the Governor’s Mansion.
The furniture at large at the Governor’s Mansion had been imported from Britain and Italy in 1820 and has been restored. The remainder of the furniture had been made (hand carved) to match the original theme. The present owners have spared no expense to achieve this aspect. Late Governor William Scott was the undefeated champion of the Norton Bridge Boat Race held every year. His last victory was when he was eighty-two years of age.
The natural pool at the Governor’s Mansion was where he practiced his boating skills. The natural pool also acts as the source of water to the hydro electricity plant in the factory. This was the sole supply of electricity to the factory, The Mansion and all other buildings around. The present owners have now stocked the natural pool with fish for the pleasure of those who wish to indulge in the past time of feeding, fishing.
